The Babri Masjid was destroyed 33 years ago, in 1992. It was destroyed by members of the RSS who held deep animosity toward Muslims. The mosque was originally built in the 16th century by Babur, the first emperor of the Mughal dynasty.
Before the demolition, activists planted a flag on the mosque. The structure was situated in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Now, a large temple has been built on that site.
The mosque was destroyed based on the controversial claim that "it was actually a temple." Recently, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated this new temple in Ayodhya, replacing the mosque.
