The Kitchen Cook | The Evident

Letters were shining in the book,

She said, “Read — The Kitchen Cook.”

A doubt arose; I went to Mom,

And said, “Let me cook, I’ll come.”

Waiting for Mother,

Time was hard to gather.

No more moments left —

Yet I had a gift.

Whenever my studies are over,

Then I will open the gift’s cover.

The last page now to study,

Mother came and said, “Get ready.”

It’s over — came JAGUAR,

A toy car, a gift from Xavier.

Remote in hand,

Worn with a band.

Thanks for this —

A tireless, busy machine: Father.

He is no more now,

But Xavier stands on the land

Where Mom and I still stand.

My mind is full of peace,

Looking at the car in my place.

I remembered tomorrow’s exercise,

And slowly closed my eyes.

But… it was forever.
