The Unstoppable Surge: Dr. Roshan’s Triumph Over Amputation, The Bombay High Court, and a 20-Year-Old Flaw in the Law
Before the horrendous tragedy, Jahan’s life was a symphony of hard work and the gentle scent of faded flowers. There were no major issues or poverty; everything was nice and clear. All she did was study her school subjects and academics well. She was a slice of aspiration for her parents and neighborhood. But there was a hidden gem that the Almighty decided to grant her, which neither she nor her parents knew about.
The girl who overcame her tragedy, the girl who crossed her illness to the track of charm, and the damsel who conquered triumph. Yes, here I am about to drop the memoir of the noble influencer Dr. Roshan Jahan Shaikh, who is a Pathologist, Motivational Speaker, Advocate for the rights of the physically disabled, and an MBBS and MD holder.
The Catastrophe at Bandra: A Destiny Interrupted
In 2008, one day as usual, Roshan headed to school. She had an exam that day, which she wrote perfectly. Afterward, while proceeding back home from Bandra railway station, she unfortunately faced a devastating train accident. Both her legs glided from the train to the adjacent part of the railway track. Rather than gazing and looking intently, none of the citizens or laborers proceeded to aid Roshan. Abruptly, some good-minded ones scrambled and dialed the hospital. After a few minutes, an ambulance approached the railway station, and she reached the hospital.
Alas, Roshan lost both her legs and became handicapped in that moment. Worse luck, for 2-3 days Roshan was not even treated effectively by the hospital doctors or staff beyond first aid. The highlighted reason was that the hospital management had an enormous protest going on. After 2-3 months of hospitalization, she was discharged.
A Legal Battle for the Dream: Fighting the 70% Barrier
She returned to her rented house in Jogeshwari and studied well for the rest of the year. Her colossal desire after her Plus Two course was to learn MBBS. Despite losing both legs, she fought for her ambition at the Bombay High Court and pursued her dream to be a doctor. The reason for the legal battle was based on her disability, which was approximately 88%, exceeding the 70% limit allowed at the time. She fought and won the prospect to study medicine.
The Pinnacle of Perseverance: Conquering Medicine
She subsequently acquired admission to the reputable Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai in 2011 and scored her piece of majesty, completing MBBS in 2017. Afterward, she went directly to achieve the NEET-PG 2018 entrance test. She went through it and bagged the 3rd position all over Maharashtra state. This was a rank held under the physically handicapped quota.
The Advocate and Influencer: Mending Broken Laws
Dr. Roshan faced another obstacle due to her infirmity. She sought assistance from Kirit Somaiya, a politician with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who represented Mumbai North-East in the 16th and 13th Lok Sabhas. He vocalized the issue to Union Health Minister JP Nadda. This turned into a historic decision: the amendment of a 20-year-old clause for brothers and sisters in the physically handicapped reservation.
According to this, Dr. Roshan Jahan pursued her MD specially in Pathology in Mumbai. She also became a motivational speaker to the social world, with the goal of infusing confidence in physically challenged people. This made her a marvelous and renowned lady all over the world.
Momentum Unquenched: The Power of Determination
Her future plans include attempting the Civil Services examinations to become an IAS Officer. After accomplishing her MD, she decided to contribute and work for people facing dysfunctions through an NGO. She knows the pains and hurdles, having suffered them since her accident in 2008 when she was in the 11th standard. That was the incident which transformed her life into a splendid and awe-inspiring lifestyle. She performs this through the path of Islam, showing the whole world her dedication by following Islamic policies and regulations despite her handicapped condition.
She proved that a loss of mobility is not a loss of momentum. The fire in her soul burns brighter than the pain she endured in her past. Not only did she finish her MBBS and MD with a first class, but she also did the same tasks as her able-bodied colleagues, including non-stop 30-hour shifts and attending to emergencies. It is a strong message to find your ability, not your disability, and show the world that passion and determination can conquer physical limitations.
The life journey of Dr. Roshan Jahan Shaikh stands as a demonstration of the flexibility of the human spirit that cannot be quenched. In spite of two amputations and the numerous obstacles posed by discriminatory laws, she turned each obstacle in her life into a success story. Her triumph in court and in the hospital confirms that actual disability is in the absence of determination.
